The Clinica Biblica Hospital Experience

Dear Patient,

The description below will give you a good idea about what to expect during your visit and/or stay at our hospital. Please note that some details may vary slightly depending on the nature of your procedure or on your particular itinerary.

Pre-operative exams

Arrival at the Hospital

On the day of your appointment our representative will pick you up and take you to your Pre-Medical Procedure Consultation (detailed in your itinerary) at the Clinica Biblica Hospital. Our HCA will welcome you and then accompany you to your preoperative exams and then to your doctor's appointment. During this meeting, the doctor will review your medical transcripts and may conduct additional tests to ensure that you
are ready for your procedure. In cases where the contracted services do not involve a surgical procedure (such as Botox or Dental Bleaching), the pre-Medical and Procedure execution might take place in the same session. Once this is over you will be taken back to your hotel, or you may prefer to go shopping or on a sightseeing tour.

Our international department is located on the first floor of the hospital's Omega building (across the street from the hospital emergency entrance). Here patients and family members can make free international calls and access the internet (complimentary access to the internet is also available throughout the hospital). Please note that your HCA will personally assist you throughout your stay at the hospital, accompanying you to appointments and assisting you with tests, admissions, or pretty much anything you need. You can contact our office directly from your hospital room by dialing Ext. 1414 (from outside the hospital please dial 522-1414).

The Day of your Surgery
• Please brush your teeth, but do not eat or drink coffee or tea (you should fast for 12 hours before the procedure).
• Please do not wear make-up, remove your contact lenses or dentures before the surgery. Do not put any moisturizer on your eyes or face.
• Please remove your nail polish.
• The evening and the morning prior your surgery, clean the operative area with soap and water.
• Please wear a robe, housecoat or warm up suit that buttons or zips in the front and flat shoes after the surgery. No tight-fitting clothes.

Medical Procedure
You will be picked up by our representative an hour and a half before your scheduled procedure and taken to the hospital where you will be greeted by your HCA and assisted with admittance into the hospital. At this time you will be required to sign some consent forms and make payment unless payment has been arranged previously. A nurse will then take your vital signs and you will be taken to the surgery ward or a waiting room to be prepared for surgery.

After Surgery

Post treatment & recovery

After surgery you will be taken to a recovery area for an hour or two and then to your room. During this time we will come by periodically to see how you are doing. You will then be taken to a private room or released from the hospital depending on the procedure. If you are staying overnight, you will be in a comfortable private room with 24 hour nursing care. Once the doctor is satisfied with your condition, you will be
released from the hospital and driven back to your hotel to begin the recuperation process. One of our international staff members will assist you at the time of your discharge. He or she will make sure transportation is waiting and your hotel has been notified (office ext. 1414).

Our price estimate usually includes additional nursing visits and assistance at your hotel. The recovery retreats we use have staff on 24 hour call in case you require any immediate assistance. Your HCA or another international staff member will visit you periodically as well.

Depending on the nature of the procedure and if your physician is satisfied with your progress, you will be given authorization to enjoy some of the beautiful attractions Costa Rica offers. We can make arrangements for you to visit and enjoy a wide variety of Costa Rica attractions with a private guide and in a comfortable air-conditioned minibus.

The follow-up appointment is usually about 8 days after your procedure though there is some flexibility here.

Return home

On your departure date a representative of the Clinica Biblica Hospital will pick you up at your hotel/retreat and take you to the airport. Depending on the procedure and how well you feel, we strongly suggest that you request wheelchair service. This will make your trip much less stressful and relaxing. Upon your arrival home, our staff will provide periodic follow-up service via phone and email, and will be available to assist you with any questions you may have.

We look forward to assisting you!
